The song HEDODAP is a shortened term for Hedonic Adaptation aka the Hedonic Treadmill. This is a concept that humans have that makes it so whatever "state" we are in, it becomes the new normal. For this reason, if you can't recognize this and learn to create contentment in your current state, reaching for the next step will only provide a desire for a new step and satisfaction will not be reached. The song is a call to not stop stepping, but to "settle down" and find peace in the steps we are on as well, because there will always be another step.
Satisfaction and Contentedness are not destinations, but states of mind.
lyrics
I’ve grown a need for novelty,
And what’s brand new today, will lose its shine next week
I feel my belly’s full, but I am hungry for more,
Cause I can’t seem to get enough to eat.
God I need a top me off, another drop won’t fill me up
Well it seems my dopamine has sprung a leak.
God I need to settle down, because I’m on a sliding scale
And always wanting more, won’t get enough for me.
Satiate my taste for me,
Need to put some sugar on my tongue, So I can taste the sweet
It seems my belly’s full, but I am hungry for more
Cause I can’t seem to get enough to eat.
